95 Percent Will Fail at Affiliate Marketing
Are You a 95%’er with your home based business?
When I was looking for an affiliate marketing system to improve my cash flow and to give me some time/freedom there were a few things I wanted. But let me back up a bit, my name is Bill and I had a busy schedule that only gave me a limited amount of time to spend to bring up an online business. Knowing from my previous adventures in online marketing it takes patience, persistence and hard work to be one of the 5% of people who actually make money online. I took these notes some 6 months ago from the time of this writing and since then I’ve been laided off so the limited time has changed. I am publishing this for those who might be in the situation I once was.
I’m an old quality assurance engineer, so forgive my analytical note taking…. I started with a list of fundamental items I needed to know then broke it down:
- Budget, how much to spend on your online business?
- What product will sell?
- What keywords?
- Type of web presence?
- What type of advertising?
Affiliate Marketing System Budget.
500.00 must see a positive profit in 6 months before increasing.
What Product?
Go to Clickbank signed up and look for a product with a gravity over 100, and that have been on Clickbank awhile otherwise known as “green”.
What Keywords?
Pick out a good keyword, launch Google Keyword Tools, pick some keywords that exact match my keyword then drill down til I find gold for my affiliate I picked.
Type of Web Presence?
Squeeze page, didn’t want to spend time writing blogs… Picked up a free squeeze page and BlueGriffon to compose in.
What type of advertising?
Free… Get to Google’s #1 spot, takes about a month. In the mean time place ads on Craigs list and every safe-list that will have me.
That was my list, remember I was still working and at the time it was 12 hours a day then drove 40 minutes home. Next I started to figure out exactly how much time it would take.
Product research was approximately 4 hours, I needed to know if the product I picked was on the up and up so I cruised the internet looking at various sites to do this research.
A lot of keyword research to find the right set of keywords for the affiliate product I was promoting. Things had changed a bit since I’d researched keywords, Google has gotten smarter, a lot smarter, Panda was just about to release which would put many nearly out of business due to the way Google ranks sites. Of course Panda has released since then, I think it took me 2 days to really comprehend what Google wanted. Believe me we want to please Google if your doing the Free traffic route. As most know, keyword research is vital if you want to rank high on Google, Yahoo or Bing. Your ranking will make you or break you and I was at the mercy of my budget to provide traffic to my site. Remember a number 1 ranking on Google gets approximately 43% of the traffic, of that traffic you can estimate 1% will purchase. Of course that also depends on your site, how professionally and pleasing to the visitor it is put together. I spent a lot of time in days figuring this out and still makes the hair on my neck stand up.
Next are you going to have a squeeze page or a full blown blog? I built squeeze pages a few years ago, again it takes time to develop especially if it’s been awhile since you’ve coded as it was in my case. Again I had to figure in Google’s Panda changes which wants fresh content around your chosen keywords, placed a certain way.. there goes my neck again…
As you may see, it takes a lot of work and patience. Thankfully I can do the work now and have the patience.
There is another way, if your still with me read on…
In June, I was cruising the internet and found an article about an affiliate marketing system that was in pre-launch, I read it 3 times and it made sense.. It said they had product, squeeze pages and email lists you could purchase to send your potential customers to. Sending emails to targeted traffic is one of the best ways to make money online. Better than pay for click, better than banner ads, and a whole lot better than safelist advertising in which no one reads because usually everyone you send to is a home based business owner themselves and are too wrapped up in their product to look at anything else, until they fail. By that time there a 95%’er and don’t want to try anything else.
The product I am talking about is Chronic Commissions see my review on this site.
In closing, don’t be a 95%er, in whatever you pick, work smart and have patience.
To your success!
Bill
